The recording is done.  Now, you are mixing your song, all by yourself, but there is still something missing to the main vocal track.  It is not as exciting as it should be.  The drums: feeling like you’re half way to a fat and warm sounding track, but can’t go further?  Maybe you are struggling with the bottom end of your mix (ah…that famous kick and bass tracks fighting with each other!).  These are just few examples that may prevent you to get that “expensive” sound you’re looking for.

Maybe the mastering engineer will finally make it happen?   Oops…big deception’s coming.  Why?  It’s not the job of the mastering engineer.  A master can just be as good as the mix is.  Give a great mix to the mastering engineer and you’ll get a great master (assuming you have a good m.e for the job!).
